Senator Joe Lieberman

The Crooked Dope
Joe Lieberman (I, CT)
I ran into Senator Lieberman in the Russell Rotunda as he navigated between television appearances.
I may be wrong, but I dont think so and Ill leave it to others to pick apart his record and substantiate my gut feeling here. But it seems to me as if Lieberman was once a reliable progressive. After (or during) the 2000 election debacle, he navigated toward the center. Then came 9/11, and then Iraq Lieberman enjoyed his status as statesman and for a while, he was deluded by a fawning press into thinking that he was a renaissance man of modern politics adored by everyone, left and right.
Then, in 2003-4 and again in 2006, reality bit him in the ass. And he was completely blindsided. All of the people that wrote nice things about him in the op-ed pages of the Washington Post Sean Hannity George Bush and Dick Cheney. they all adored him! How could it be that the people the riff-raff werent equally in love?
Well, it mustve been the new guys on the block those bloggers and the rest of the lunatics on the far-left. They pissed in Good ol Joes punch-bowl and ruined everything.
But Joe just knew he was loved. And ultimately, he was right. All it took was a party switch and he won re-election handily in 2006. Of course, his love comes from George Bush and Dick Cheney fans Friends of Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck tea-baggers, birthers and assorted extremists But in the end, Joe Lieberman is in the Senate and Ned Lamont is not.
I dont think that lesson has been lost on Joe. I think he knows who butters (and buttered) his bread, and hes changed political stripes to stay in the good graces of his new-found base. I dont think the Joe Lieberman of 1998 would have in a million years opposed a public option. (Yeah, I know, he was too busy criticizing Bill Clinton, even then. So, like I said, maybe Im wrong about this).
Anyway, the question on everyones minds is whether or not Joe will stand with Democrats and vote for cloture if it is necessary to bring a health care bill with a public option to the floor of the Senate for an up or down vote.
In the video, he tells me he hasnt decided.
So I ask him if it would matter if support for the public option was running at 60-65% in his state.
He tells me he is always interested in what the people have to say, and then goes on to do a bit of filibustering of his own to end my interview.

Why should one have ... ( 8 months ago by The6000Sabre)
Why should one have to pay ones entire working life into Medicare Part A then also pay Medicare Part B premiums when retired and still have to purchase additional private supplemental insurance and do all that on a $750.00 a month Social Security check. Are you out of your mind?
So one has to pay ... ( 8 months ago by The6000Sabre)
So one has to pay into Medicaid Part A all ones working life. Then when retired pay additional premiums for Medicare Part B. Which only covers 75% of costs. Then have to purchase additional private supplemental insurance. And an elderly person should pay all this out of a $750.00 a month Social Security check?
You have to be out of your mind!!!!

What you are ... ( 8 months ago by TheAfroQween)
What you are describing is MEDICARE which is what we have now- the proposed bill is to improve upon what we have now- which will give insurance co.'s more of a competition which will force them to lower their premiums and give more low- income families a chance to actually get their teeth CLEANED vs. JUST CHECKED for ex. the new bill proposes more FLEXIBILITY and OVERALL acceptance of any illness no matter if its pre existing or not. The bill proposes the OPPOSITE of controlling health care.

Are you A_B_O_L_U_T_E_L_Y 100% proof positive sure of this??
I don't need proof ... ( 8 months ago by TheAfroQween)
I don't need proof I worked in the med. field for over 10 yrs - and I've seen ppl not rec' treatment for things medicare did not cover and they couldn't afford private ins. for simple things that can cause long term damage if its not treated ie DENTAL CAVITIES, GUM DISEASE that all can be avoided with PREVENTATIVE treatemnt. IE = DENTAL CLEANING/ 6 MOS. So 2 ans. your ? YES I AM SURE PROOF POSITIVE OF THIS-
I'm not a medical ... ( 8 months ago by The6000Sabre)
I'm not a medical person. But I believe there is a bit more to medicine than having a tooth cavity filled.
But again! I'm not a medical person. So you'll have to take what I said with a grain of salt. Not sugar which can cause tooth decay, but a grain of salt.
Medicare denies ... ( 8 months ago by TheAfroQween)
Medicare denies care for lots of different issues for ex. ppl cannot get their teeth cleaned and have it covered by medicare= elders NOR children- tooth decay and gum disease is one of the LEADING causes, gone untreated, that lead to heart disease which leads to organ issues= kidney, liver, bladder issues. All because dental treatment = PREVENTATIVE treatment = BI ANNUAL cleaning(every 6 mos.) is NOT covered by medicare. the ppl u know must not have any teeth.
cavities and gum ... ( 8 months ago by TheAfroQween)
cavities and gum disease are two of the main reasons ppl have heart issues, blood pressure issues, bladder, kidney (dialysis) because of untreated dental decay and PREVENTATIVE MEASURES= dental cleanings every six months of which MEDICAID/MEDICARE DOES NOT COVER CURRENTLY- not even a portion of the treatment- not to mention OPTICAL care, screenings and check ups for the elderly or the children that have serious issues = glaucoma. I am a med. person and it is VERY simple.
I was a former ... ( 8 months ago by TheAfroQween)
I was a former REGISTERED BSN specializing in critical care NICU & trauma and er as well as pediatrics and skilled care for the elderly- so simply having a tooth filled cleaned and treated BEFORE decay can prevent a lot of pre existing conditions that MEDICARE/MEDICAIDE AND private ins. don't cover, won't cover or over charge for.

Dental car is fine. But this issue is about life saving medicine
[dental care] ( 8 months ago by The6000Sabre)
[dental care]
which also isnt ... ( 8 months ago by TheAfroQween)
which also isnt fully covered by Medicare OR Medicaid- its all still about HCR- wtf are you talking about 'life saving medicine' isn't medication part of medical care and the OVERLY high cost of medication? Which is ALSO PART OF THE PROBLEM WE ARE TRYING TO FIX HERE- Proper dental care, optical care as well as over all care is called PRACTICING AND PROVIDING AND REC AFFORDABLE life saving medicine... smh
Yes MediCARE does ... ( 8 months ago by The6000Sabre)
Yes MediCARE does not cover dental.
MediCAID does cover dental if you are fortunate to find a dentist who will work for MediCAID rates which are very low.

If people around him have changed, does that mean that his wife is no longer a senior counselor to Hill & Knowlton which is one of the world's biggest lobbying firms for the health care industry.
Guess not.
if people around ... ( 7 months ago by jbugko)
if people around him have changed, does that mean that his staff salaries have been willing to take a bit of a pay cut in the name of fiscal prudence?
If Lieberman wanted to practice fiscal prudence, he would tone down his staff salaries which are higher than the average. ie $2,656,223 spent last year in his staff salaries for 2008 on top of his own salary.
