Well, perhaps when nationalism and anti-communism became core precepts of the right. Besides, both Bushes did, not one, but the biggest difference is when so-called "left" presidents do it, its a legal above board war. When Reagan and Nixon do it, its illegal and secret.

I see no real difference between the left and right today, plenty of small differences. No big ones though.

Yeah, there aren't big ones. Most lefties hate the Democratic party, but hold their noses to avoid a greater evil.
But the difference relates to a lot that I can't fit into 500 chars. The right aligning itself with militant, crusading Christianity, justifying wasteful defense spending to prop up defense contractors in post-Cold war, an us vs them attitude to the world, the whole guns & tough guy attitude, a strong attachment to and defense of violent punishment in all its forms.

You definitely saw it after 9/11, where it didn't matter that Iraq had nothing to do with it, "those people from over there" did it. Which ties right into the us vs them nationalism that has long been the standard of the right. Besides, the Left may have been involved in interventionist war, but it was the Right screaming "you're not doing enough to stop communism" the whole time. Imagine how many anti-communist wars we would have been in had we had 40 years of Nixons & Bushes.
