Most Americans have no idea about what their govt has been doing for the past 100 years or so. US govt has an annual budget for "discretionary spending" of billions of dollars which it does not have to reveal to the public. In the '80's the US spent more than $36 billion taxpayers money in Pakistan and Afghanistan, training and arming Mujahidin with modern weapons and guerilla tactics. Many of these became terrorists that later killed Americans

Today, US is using a different strategy...counter-insurgency or COIN which includes building schools to educate the children. Taliban are against general education. @AccordGTR I think you are misguided on your reasearch. The "Training and arming Mujahidin" was to counter the Russian invasion into Afghansitan. The arming was discussed and approved many US Senators. Once Russia withdrew from Afghanistan so did the USA, at the dissaproval of Senator Charlie Wilson that predicted the Taliban would one day come back to attack the USA.

My point was that funding the training of afghan resistance fighters was well known and approved by US Congress, disagreeing with your claim that it was done covertley. On another note what are your sources for these claims?
